Mobile Engineering Workshops for Schools & Home Educated Learners in Devon and the South West
Practical Pathways provides a fully equipped mobile engineering workshop delivering hands-on learning for schools, specialist settings and home-educated learners across Devon and the South West. Sessions use real tools, vehicles and engineering activities to develop practical skills, confidence and curiosity through meaningful, real-world experiences.
A Complete Mobile Workshop Experience
Practical Pathways delivers a complete, self‑contained mobile workshop equipped with industry‑standard tools, materials, and safety gear. Students work in a controlled, authentic environment that mirrors real mechanical practice and supports safe, confident skill development.
Experienced, Qualified Instruction
Sessions are delivered by a qualified teacher and former primary headteacher. I have supported pupils with a wide range of needs, including those requiring SEN and SEMH provision, ensuring that all learners receive structured, purposeful guidance within a calm and professional learning environment.
Clear Pathways to Recognised Qualifications
Students follow structured routes toward nationally recognised qualifications, including Entry Level and Level 1 Motor Vehicle Studies (SEG). These pathways provide clear progression into further education, apprenticeships, and employment within the automotive and engineering sectors.
Built for Students Who Learn Best by Doing
"In class, they’d probably just make us draw a diagram."
Practical Pathways is designed for students who thrive through hands‑on learning — especially SEN/SEMH learners, those disengaged from classroom learning, and schools without workshop facilities.
“Des was awesome! It was a really cool session. The Pit Stop was my favourite part and I really enjoyed using the tools and changing the tyre! I loved the circuits too. So proud of myself. Can't wait to go again.”

"They develop practical skills without realising they're developing English, Maths and STEM along the way."
We were delighted to welcome Practical Pathways to our Greenlight Plymouth centre, where our supported interns had the opportunity to get hands-on with vehicle mechanics.
Experiences like these give young learners the chance to develop practical skills, build confidence, and explore different career pathways in a supportive environment. It's a great way to introduce new trades, encourage curiosity, and help learners discover what they enjoy.
