A Structured, In-School Approach to SEND and Engagement
The Department for Education’s current focus on SEND and inclusion places increased expectations on mainstream schools to deliver structured, in-school provision that meets a wider range of pupil needs. This includes providing clearly defined, evidence-based interventions that support engagement, behaviour, and access to learning, while maintaining pupils within their mainstream setting wherever possible.
Practical Pathways provides mainstream schools, specialised academies, and local authorities across Devon and the South West with a structured, on-site intervention that supports schools to deliver inclusive SEND provision, meet Individual Support Plan (ISP) requirements, and maximise the impact of existing funding streams.
All provision is designed to be measurable, allowing schools to evidence impact in engagement, behaviour, and progress as part of their SEND and inclusion reporting.
How We Align with the Support Framework
Our modular, hands-on SEG Motor Vehicle Studies units are explicitly structured to support schools across targeted intervention frameworks:
Targeted Support (Graduated Response): Provides a structured, hands-on intervention for pupils identified within a school’s graduated SEND response, supporting engagement, behaviour, and access to learning.
Targeted Plus & Specialist Provision: Delivers accredited, career-focused programmes for pupils with Individual Support Plans (ISPs) or EHCPs, forming part of a clearly evidenced package of provision.
Navigating the Funding Framework
Aligned with the Schools White Paper expectation that mainstream schools deliver structured, in-house SEND provision, our model enables you to deploy high-impact support within existing funding frameworks.
1. High Needs Funding Integration
Because our delivery takes place directly on your school site, commission costs avoid the expensive premiums associated with full-time external placements. Schools can directly utilise their local authority High Needs top-up allocations to fund our targeted day sessions. This enables schools to evidence targeted provision within their SEND framework without relying on external placements.
2. Safeguarding Accountability & Lower Operational Costs
By delivering provision on-site, schools retain full oversight of pupils’ progress, attendance, and safeguarding, ensuring alignment with accountability expectations while reducing logistical and staffing pressures.
3. Evidenced Progress and Flexible Pathways
We tailor our delivery to meet the exact needs of your cohort. For older students, we offer structured routes toward nationally recognised SEG (Skills and Education Group) awards. For primary schools and bespoke short-term placements, we provide engagement-focused, hands-on engineering blocks. Regardless of the track, we provide clear progress tracking, attendance logs, and personal development outcomes—giving your leadership team the concrete evidence needed for annual reviews and quality inspections.
Supporting the Graduated SEND Response
The 2026 Schools White Paper places a clear expectation on schools to meet a wider range of pupil needs through a structured, graduated approach to SEND provision. Practical Pathways supports this by acting as a flexible intervention within a school’s existing framework.
Targeted – short-term engagement programmes to support pupils at risk of disengagement
Targeted Plus – structured provision linked to Individual Support Plans
Specialist – accredited pathways supporting EHCP outcomes
All delivery takes place on-site, enabling schools to maintain inclusion while providing meaningful, differentiated provision.
